The trip to Bountiful! Cicely tyson with all star cast.
Best play I've seen in a long time!
The trip to bountiful was inspiring, sad, nostalgic, funny, just to name a few adjectives. When I read the advertisement in the LA Weekly newspaper. I keep thinking wow, I've never seen Cicely Tyson in a live production. I have to see this play! She is such a talented Actress. In my opinion a living legend! A true jewel to the acting community. I'm so happy that I did. Of course she did a fantastic job! In addition, her co-stars Vanessa Williams and Blair Underwood were wonderful as well.
The play is about an elderly woman revisiting her home in Bountiful, Texas before she dies. The challenge is that her son (Blair Underwood) and daughter in law (Vanessa Williams) who she lives with won't let her go because they're concerned about her health and other things (social security checks). Once she escapes to her former home she reminisces on her life journey. The play made me think about my own home and the different experiences I encountered in my life. It made me think about my family, close friends and how precious life is. Also how fast life goes by. It forced me to question my own existence and ask myself am I living life at my full potential.
Cicely Tyson's character name is Carrie Watts. Which I couldn't remember for the life of me. I had to google it because I actually saw the play weeks ago. Unfortunately, I'm just getting around to writing this review. There were other story lines happening with Vanessa and Blair however in this blog I'm focusing on Ms. Tyson.
I also learned that we must respect and honor our seniors because they have feeling too. Just because someone is over sixty five, walk slow or can't take care of themselves doesn't mean they don't have the same emotions that we do. The play made me more aware of our seniors and how we should take care of them.
If you get an opportunity to see it in New York or Los Angeles you won't be sorry. I saw it at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. I heard rumors that they might do a national tour. So I hope it comes to your city. I definitely recommend this play. I personally loved it!

Which happy do you prefer?
Once a month I sit at my favorite cafe in Los Angeles and evaluate my life. "Am I happy?" Is always the first question. To be honest with you sometimes the answer is yes sometimes no. It depends on my mood and what's going on in my life. If I had an argument with the significant other moments before, telling me I'm shopping to much. I'm probably in a bad mood. On the other hand, if I had a performance gig the night before. I'm still on my natural high and therefore in a good mood.
This might seem odd but what I've discovered is that there are two forms of happiness for me. I have the physical and the spiritual. The physical, which is controlled by my moods. For example, when I get a new pair of shoes from Nordstrom. I stare at them, while I'm waiting in line at the register to pay for them, admiring their beauty. I'm happy on a physical level. However when I'm writing or singing or being creative that's a totally different kind of happiness. It comes from within, that's why I call it my spiritual happy. Believe me both forms of happiness are a priority in my life and I try to keep a balance.
Sometimes while sitting in the cafe, I feel emotions that I don't understand. I don't know where the heck they come from. My inner world is discombobulated. I become anxious and ask, "why are my emotions complicated"? What I have come to realize is that everyone's emotions can be complicated on some level. I am no different, I only choose to examine mine. As we are all on an individual journey. The destination however is the same place. That place being discovering the God or goddess within myself and yourself. What I realized is that being sad, happy, excited, disappointed, etc. Whatever emotion I experience it's all apart of life. It's what you call the journey. I acknowledge the emotion, try to understand it. If I don't, I'm confident that I will come to understand it sometime in the future and move on.
The answers I don't know always eventually come to me. I only need to have patience.
Keeping a journal always helps me to sort through my emotions. This is how I discovered I had two levels of happiness. As you probably guessed as I'm writing this post. I'm very happy and I hope you are too! Do you need both levels of happiness in your life? Feel free to leave a comment.

My Latest Novel |
Dragonflies in Hollywood (Everything that shines ain’t no Diamond)
In
Hollywood movies, dreams come true and hearts are shattered in just a few
takes, but in real life, there is only one take and no editing allowed. The
Dragonfly sees all as it follows the lives of three best friends living in Los
Angeles. Even though their lives are glamorous at times, each woman is on an
individual journey to find love, professional success and spiritual growth.
They realize it’s a lot more difficult than they expected.
For Leanora, a
Hollywood publicist who rubs shoulders with the rich and famous, outwardly it
appears that she has it all, but deep inside, she is as lonely as a $2 bill.
Desperate for love, she does the unimaginable to one of her best friends and
her conscience is getting the best of her.
Behind the façade of
a picture-perfect marriage, Tiffany hides an abusive relationship and an
addiction to antidepressant medications that help her cope.
Christina, a
cash-strapped artist, has burned some bridges by constantly borrowing money
from her friends, so she resorts to a different kind of rubbing as a paid
escort.
Dirty laundry
eventually must be washed, so everyone is forced to come clean. The women are
at a crossroads and must make a decision to trust their Dragonfly or continue
living aimlessly in La La Land.

Crossed off the Bucket List. The GrandCanyon
The Summer I did something I always wanted to do. It had
been a dream of mine for many years. I'm sure you guessed it. I Hiked the Grand Canyon.
Some people dream about diamonds or winning lotto. I mean, I dream about those
things too however the Canyon was more attainable. The Grand Canyon is located in
the United States of America and it's about a billion years old. How do you
comprehend a billion years? I still cant! All I know is that it was magnificent
to look at. It's in the state of Arizona, which was carved by the Colorado River.
Talk about exciting, hiking
the Canyon was one of the most exhilarating things I had ever done in my life,
besides having my first orgasm. As I overlooked the Canyon from the South Rim. I
was in complete awe. Now hiking it was a different story. When you hike the
Canyon it takes two days to get all the way to the bottom and back.
That is the reason the Rangers suggest you camp overnight.
My boyfriend and I choose to hike halfway down. Which is about six long miles
down. While we hiked down we laughed, talked and enjoyed the sights. Now
returning was the opposite. We argued, screamed and kept stopping to rest. My
boyfriend screamed " I can't feel my legs anymore". The
difference between him and I was that I did train a month before we left for
the Canyon. I walked six miles four times a week to prepare myself and it was
rough for me. My boyfriend said that he didn't need to train. Ha Ha! He learned a valuable lesson. Some men
you can't tell them anything.
Nevertheless, we had a great time the three nights we
spent at the Grand Canyon. Everyday we discovered something new.
If you are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon make
sure you budget your money. Try to book your Hotel accommodations far in
advance. Hotels sale out fast and can get a little expensive. If you run out of
money however there is a Chase Bank in the Canyon. So make sure you bring
your ATM card. We had a lot of fun and met people from all over the world. My
visit to the Grand Canyon was worth the money.
